Nightwater Resources: Find Them and Unlock Milestones

Resources drive everything in Nightwater. Gather them by hand or automate to hit milestone goals and unlock buildings, crafts, and buffs. This page lists what is known from the demo, screenshots, and developer posts.

Resource Overview

Nightwater has 20+ resources spread across multiple biomes. Each resource has its own progression track. You progress by collecting that resource, either manually or with machines. Hitting milestone goals unlocks new buildings, crafts, and buffs.

From the official Milestones screenshot, confirmed resources include oak wood log, grey stone, clay-like brown lump, wheat, coal, several ores, sand, pink quartz crystal, cactus, blue crystal, and red mushroom. Some slots are hidden until discovered.

The demo includes the first biome, The Woods, with every milestone item and unlock. The Mountains biome appears as a preview. The full game has all biomes and resources.

Where to Find Resources

Resources are tied to biomes. The Woods is the starting biome. The Mountains biome is the second, previewed in the demo. More biomes are manifested as you expand the island.

Each biome has unique resources. For example, oak wood and grey stone come from The Woods. The Mountains likely provide ores and crystals, but the demo does not confirm exact drops.

The developer stated the demo includes all milestone items for The Woods and a sneak peek at Mountains resources. The full release has all biomes with their resources.

Some resources appear in multiple biomes, but no official source specifies which.

Milestones and Unlocks

Every resource has a milestone track. Collect a certain amount to unlock entries. The screenshot shows the Simple Jetpack requires 1000 Quartz Ore. The progress bar read 1/1000.

Milestone items are shown in a grid on the Milestones screen. The bottom row shows what each item unlocks. Unlocks include buildings, crafts, and buffs.

Processed materials do not count toward milestones. Only the raw resource counts. For example, iron ore counts, but iron ingots do not. One player reported that copper ore from a primitive ore crusher did not count, but the developer said items do count if you take them out of the harvester. If you craft them in an assembler, they do not count.

Automation must feed raw resources into storage, not directly into crafting, if you want milestone progress.

Automation and Resource Collection

You can gather resources by hand or automate with machines. There are 60+ buildings including farmers, assemblers, and storage units. Machines can be linked with pipes.

Buildings can be moved or deconstructed without losing items. You can build as many as you want.

Harvesters collect resources, but you must take items out of them for milestone progress. Assemblers do not count toward milestones.

The demo showed that holding the mouse button does 1 damage per hit, so manual gathering is slow. Automation is the intended path for large-scale collection.

Known Issues and Workarounds

Several players reported milestone tracking issues. One said iron ingot recipe did not unlock after reaching 70/70 iron ore. Another said copper ore from the primitive ore crusher did not count. The developer replied that items do count if you take them out of the harvester. If you craft them in an assembler, they do not count.

No confirmed fix is documented yet for the iron ingot issue beyond the developer's note. Check your build for updates.

The 1.0.10 patch fixed a bug where Primary Only Upgrade still gave Stone. That may relate to milestone tracking.

If you encounter a resource not counting, try collecting it manually or taking it out of storage before crafting.
